The Challenge
While constructing a new dental facility, Dr. Dorostkar decided to expand its sustainability efforts to become a LEED® certified office. As a part of this initiative, the amount of paper towel waste needed to be reduced – especially since kids tend to use more paper towels. To reduce negative environmental impact and excessive waste, John G. Millar, Project Manager, investigated hand dryers as an alternative to paper towels.

The Solution
Millar learned of the Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers, and included Dyson in his hand dryer research. At the same time, Dr. Gila Dorostkar had the opportunity to use the Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer while traveling through the San Francisco Airport and was an instant fan of the technology. Following this positive experience and thorough research, Millar’s team specified Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers in the dental office blueprints. The Results
Parents like the effectiveness of the Dyson Airblade™ hand dryers, while children enjoy using them. “Kids love the Airblade! They think it’s fun. Even with the bathroom door closed, we can still hear their laughs of delight when the Airblade turns on,” describes Dr. Dorostkar. Who knew children could enjoy a visit to the dentist so much.

Further, paper towel consumption and waste has dropped over 50% – not only contributing to the office’s environmental certifications, but also its philosophy of providing a healthy atmosphere and enhanced dental experience for patients and their parents.
